This is what greeted people on Westmount Rd. in Kitchener and Waterloo late this summer.

While the COVID lanes have been removed, their legacy will continue to shape the region. Just what is that legacy.

Feedback collected by staff was largely negative (96% according to their report). Some councillors also reported a large number of negative emails. However others also received positive messages, and messages on social media were also mixed. Further the original public consultation saw thousands of supportive responses, and hundreds of letters written to councillors.

What are we to make of this mixed response. It is hard to know for sure. It is possible that support disappeared. It is also entirely possible…

Cycling in the Mont-Tremblant region of Quebec is one of life’s pleasant surprises. It’s fairly well known that Montreal has — for North America at least — excellent bike infrastructure. What is less well known is that much of the province of Quebec does as well. This I believe is owing in large part to the cycling tourism strategy the province has implemented. There is a whole network of routes throughout the province, of varying levels of quality, and in fact many of them look quite comfortable. My experience is mostly in the Mont-Tremblant region.
